1. What MindIn is
MindIn is a beta web app that helps people notice, name and reflect on their emotions. You write a short entry, an AI model suggests which of eight emotion categories it most resembles, you confirm or change that label, and MindIn shows a simplified 3D illustration of brain regions associated with that emotion in published research.
MindIn is designed for general wellbeing and education. It is currently in beta: features may change, break or be removed, and it is offered free of charge while it is tested.
MindIn is provided by MindIn Technology Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17520222). Registered office: 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA. Contact: contactys@mindin.co.uk.
2. What MindIn is not
- MindIn is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, assess, monitor, prevent or treat any physical or mental health condition.
- MindIn is not a substitute for professional advice. Nothing in the app, including emotion labels, captions, patterns or suggestions, is medical, psychological or clinical advice.
- MindIn is not a crisis or emergency service. No one monitors entries, and MindIn cannot alert anyone or send help. It sometimes shows support suggestions, but it can miss signs of distress.
- MindIn is not therapy. It does not replace a GP, counsellor, psychologist, psychiatrist or any other qualified professional.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E.
If you are worried about your mental health, or someone else’s, please speak to a GP or one of the services listed under . Never delay seeking professional help, or stop or change any treatment, because of something you have seen in MindIn.
3. How the emotion labels work, and their limits
Emotion labels are generated by a third-party AI model, using MindIn's own classification instructions to interpret the text of an entry. AI can misread tone, sarcasm, context, culture or language, and it can be confidently wrong. Labels are suggestions for reflection, not judgements about how you feel. You are always the best judge of your own emotions, which is why MindIn asks you to confirm or change every label.
MindIn may sometimes show a support message if an entry suggests significant distress or a negative emotion comes up repeatedly. This is a simple safety prompt, not a risk assessment. It can miss signs of distress and can appear when it is not needed. Its absence does not mean everything is fine.
4. About the brain science and suggestions
The brain regions shown for each emotion are a simplified selection, chosen from published neuroscience research. Emotions involve networks across the whole brain, research findings are averages across groups, and individual brains differ. The 3D visuals are illustrations for learning. They do not show, measure or predict activity in your brain.
Wellbeing suggestions, such as those shown when an emotion keeps coming up, are general information based on NHS guidance. They may not suit everyone. If a suggestion makes you feel worse, stop and speak to a GP or one of the services listed under . MindIn is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NHS.
5. Who can use MindIn
MindIn is intended for people aged 18 and over who live in the UK. It is not designed for children or young people. If you are under 18 and struggling, Childline is free on 0800 1111.
6. About your data
To save entries and see your history, you sign in with an email address and password. Each confirmed entry (the words you wrote, the emotion you confirmed and when) is stored in a database run by Supabase on MindIn's behalf. The database is hosted in Ireland and linked to your account, so your history is available on any device once you sign in. Each account can read only its own entries. MindIn only accesses an entry if needed to fix a technical or security problem, respond to a request about an account or meet a legal duty.
To suggest an emotion and check for signs of distress, the text of a submitted entry is sent securely to a MindIn server function in London and on to Anthropic's API, then the result comes back. Anthropic may process this text outside the UK, including in the US. Anthropic does not use this text to train its models. It automatically deletes it within 30 days, unless it needs to keep it longer to enforce its Usage Policy or comply with the law. The AI's suggestions and any distress flag are not saved to your account. Full checks only run on entries submitted after signing in, and may not run if there is a technical problem.
A few small things stay only on your device: your sign-in session, an unsent draft, your settings, wellbeing counts, and a record of when a support message was shown. Apart from the draft, none of these include what you wrote.
Entries are never sold or used for advertising, and MindIn uses no analytics or advertising trackers. To delete your account and entries, email contactys@mindin.co.uk; there is no delete option in the app yet. Accounts and entries are kept while the account is open, until deletion is requested or an unused account is deleted after 24 months, following an email warning. Requested deletions are completed within 30 days. Backup copies may take longer to expire. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
